Blackselfie is a representation of the African American woman who has become an icon of her people. She has a strong chin and fist in the air, showing her determination and ability to fight for what she believes in. Her hair is an homage to some of the great figures who were a part of the Black Power movement, like Angela Davis and Assata Shakur, who formed beautiful afros under duress. Blackselfie is also a reminder that our struggle did not end when we got here; it continues today with updated forms such as slavery by prisons, discrimination against ethnic minorities, police brutality and racism.
